Responsibilities
- Operate and balance a cash drawer with precision and integrity
- Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting clients warmly, addressing inquiries, and providing clear information about banking products and services
- Conduct basic math calculations swiftly to process transactions efficiently and accurately using financial software
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling banking products to meet client needs and enhance their financial well-being; no cold calling or sales goals
- Professionally refer customers seeking commercial loan services, real estate loans, and merchant accounts
- Ensure compliance with bank policies
Experience/Skills
- Prior experience in retail banking or financial services is preferred but not required; we value enthusiasm for learning and a proactive attitude

Commercial Credit Underwriting Manager
Job Summary
Altoona First Savings Bank is seeking an experienced Commercial Credit Underwriting Manager to oversee commercial credit underwriting, loan structuring, and ongoing portfolio management. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent credit analysis, sound loan structures, regulatory compliance, and strong risk management practices across the commercial loan lifecycle.
The ideal candidate brings deep commercial credit expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to relationship-based community banking.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Analysis & Underwriting Oversight
- Oversee and perform analysis of commercial loan requests using Sageworks and other approved tools
- Review loan structures, terms, pricing, collateral, and risk alignment with Bank policy
- Ensure underwriting narratives, risk ratings, and supporting documentation are complete and accurate
- Review commitment letters for accuracy and policy compliance
Loan Processing, Documentation & Booking
- Oversee loan setup, documentation review, booking, and imaging
- Ensure all required documents are properly executed and scanned
- Identify and resolve loan corrections including payments, rate changes, and booking errors
- Review and approve loan draws and advances in accordance with approval terms
Portfolio Monitoring & Servicing
- Ensure timely completion of annual reviews, covenant testing, and risk rating validation
- Oversee participation loan servicing, including payments and coordination with lead banks
- Monitor demand loans approaching maturity and expired loans
- Track maximum credit exposures and compliance with internal limits
Reporting & Reconciliations
- Review and manage recurring reports including:
- Expired loans
- Missing documentation
- Demand loan maturities
- UCC-1 filings and continuations
- Perform general ledger balancing related to loan activity
Compliance, Audit & Risk Management
- Support internal and external audits, exams, and loan reviews
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented and documented
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
Annual & Periodic Responsibilities
- Coordinate annual financial information requests
- Review portfolio trends and credit concentrations for senior management and Board reporting
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years of commercial credit underwriting experience in a banking environment
- Strong knowledge of commercial loan structures, cash flow analysis, and collateral evaluation
- Experience with credit analysis platforms
- Prior supervisory or managerial experience
- Experience with SBA lending and/or participation loans
